Description
Up for auction is a Teac A-3340S 4 track multitrack recorder with SimulSync. It can also play standard 2 track (stereo) 1/4 inch tapes. These recorders were popular in the late 70's and early 80's for their simplicity of operation, excellent sound quality and value. They are robust and reliable. If you want to try your hand at real multi track analog recording (and compare your talent to the Beatles and George Martin!), this will give you quality results at a great price. If you want true analog tape sound... here it is. If you use a DAW and want to get real analog sound run your line outs through this and re-record back into your DAW! Cheaper and more realistic than a plug-in!!! This particular machine was used in a non-smoking home studio. I have not used it in 3 or 4 years. When I took it out of service all functions were working properly, heads were demagnetized and it had recently been aligned to a Magnetic Refernce Laboratory Calibration Tape (21T204) test tape. I no longer have the power cord for it, so I am not able to plug it in and test it. It is being sold AS IS. I would expect with it's age and not having been used in 3 or 4 years, that some of the pots may be scratchy and the transport may require lubrication. (With age the capstan engage mechanism can become sluggish.) Specs from TEAC 3340S Service Manual (note - I am not implying that the machine for auction meets these specs, I have no way of making these measurements - these are just guidelines as noted in the original Service Manual): 3 heads (earse, record, playback Reel Size: 10 1/2" maximum NAB reel Tape Width: standard 1/4 inch tape Tape Speed: 15 ips and 7 1/2 ips Motors: 6 pole eddy current motors for reel drive x 2; 4/8 pole hysteresis synchronous capstan motor x 1 Wow and Flutter: 0.15% at 15ips (RMS), 0.18% at 7-1/2 ips (RMS) Fast winding Time: Approx. 140 seconds or less with 1800 ft tape Operating Position: Horizontal or Vertical Frequency Response: Overall from recording INPUT to playback OUTPUT; 15 ips = 30 Hz to 22 kHz +/- 3db Signal to Noise: 50 dB or higher at Mic input, 55dB or higher at Line (measured during playback unweighted) Input Impedance: Mic: 10k ohm, Line: 50k ohm Output level: 0dB (0.775V) max +6dB (1.55V) Bias Frequency: 100kHz (=/- 5 kHz; Push-pull oscillator) The unit does NOT come with instruction manual, power cord or any audio cables. The power cord required is a two conductor plug in type (see photo of rear panel). This thing is heavy (shipping weight 65 pounds) so check the shipping calculator before bidding. The unit will be shipped in it's original shipping box (see photos).
