Description
HappyNorwood's AdVintage Music Please Note: The pinch rollers on this unit had turned to gum. I had to remove them, and there is no way to do a functional check out without them. The unit turns on, the motors drive, it is a cosmetically beautiful machine. I have no reason to believe that it won't work fine with the rollers replaced. I would imagine if the rollers were deteriorated that the belt may need replacement as well. The price of the unit will reflect this. Also, there will be a very liberal refund protection for the buyer. Hello, and thank you for your interest in this item. There is a good possibility that if you are considering purchasing this Pioneer, that you already are familiar with the quality and the availability of support for this machine. I haven't used this unit since the late 1990's. It was fully functional at that time. I boxed it up and put it in a closet in our air conditioned home. There it has remained, undisturbed, for the past ten years. I was actually looking for something else when I came accross it, and after looking on E-Bay, saw that it is a popular item. I still have my TEAC 4 track, and most of my recordings are done as original music multitrack, I will keep the TEAC and sell this one. The unit is sold without pinch rollers, and hubs for 10" reels. The unit is sold as is, but not without refund if not satisfied. I'm expecting that possibly the buyer of this will be someone who is in the service business themselves and purchases this with the intention of doing a service and resale. Having just spent two days searching for schematics, and any type of documentation on a preamp that was discontinued only 4 years ago...(and not finding anything useful) That was for a guitar preamp, not the Pioneer. So, when I did a search on the RT 909 I WAS AMAZED at the amount of publications, User Manuals, Service Documentation, etc., as well as PARTS...PARTS...PARTS! Also the ease with which you can find a qualified service provider. I really don't have the inclination to service this unit myself. I'm involved with Vintage guitars nowdays. So I would prefer to sell as is, and offer the buyer the option of a refund if the item needs more than just a couple of rollers, a belt, and any reasonable servicing. PLEASE, before becoming 100% disabled in 2001, I had been a field engineer for IBM, KODAK, and G.E. Don't buy this item, with the intention of taking parts and send back for a refund. I will allow you plenty of time to determine if it is not cost effective. I don't want to unload a problem on anyone. I just want to move it, and I hope that it will be a terrific deal for someone. Here are some samples of what I pulled off of the internet with just a simple search of Pioneer RT 909: Free downloads of Pioneer RT 909 Service and Support Documentationhttp://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/6302/Pioneer_RT909.html _________________________________________________________________________________ Restoring a Pioneer RT-909 Reel-to-Reel The RT-909 is by far the nicest consumer reel-to-reel Pioneer ever produced. It is rack-mountable, handles 10.5" reels, is a dual-capstan, closed-loop servo controlled drive, electro-motive reel braking, with auto-reverse capability. The design is truly simple, yet elegant, doing away with most of the complicated mechanism of many of the other decks in its league. The unit I just restored has playback response of 20-20Khz +/- 0.5db, at -10db modulation, which blew me away when I heard it put it all together. My main rig will never be without a one of these beauties. It is no wonder that so many of these units were sold back in the day, even as expensive as they were ($1100 1979 dollars). This thread is for those who have had an RT-909 since they bought it new, or discovered Dad's RT-909 in the closet, and want it to perform up to, or exceeding, original factory specs. After almost 30 years all of these will need some restoration operations performed on them, even if they appear to 'work'. They may work, but you will never know what they can 'do' until you bring them back up to full steam. Here is an overall list of operations I perform on these units, before offering them for sale (in my opinion, none are optional): Goes on to give a very detailed servicing description......______________________________________________________________________________________ Audio equipment, digital audio, home audio, professional audio systems service manuals and repair informationFile information: File name: pioneer rt909.r00 Size: 1008 kB Extension: MD5 Checksum: 5d53a3da4cc020e067ad61a2a2e9ffce Mfg: Pioneer Model: RT909 Original no||Chassis||Ordercode: RT909 Description: PIONEER RT909 Reel-to-Reel-Tape-Recorders Group: Electronics > Consumer electronics > Audio > Uploaded: 2004-07-19 23:54:54 User: plamensl (97901) Multipart: 0 1 ________________________________________________________________________________- Incredible amount of parts and support available for this model eBay Results(1 - 20 of 60) [ hide column ] Previous | Next Refinement Options: Category: Consumer ElectronicsVintage ElectronicsReel-to-Reel Tape RecordersSee all categories ___________________________________________________________________________________ RT-909 Reel-To-Reel Tape Deck — The 909 is the high-water mark for consumer reel-to-reel tape decks. It was so good, in fact, that many recording studios used the 909. It featured the high capacity 10-1/2 inch reel size, which could record hours of music and the lower speeds, or make extremely high quality recordings at the faster speeds. It would auto-reverse, and could record in either 2-track 2-direction, or 4-track in one direction. Available 1979 to 1984, $900 ________________________________________________________________________________ And on and on it goes. You won't have a problem finding information about the RT 909. Terrific machine, a beautiful addition to any audiophiles arsenal. HUB ADAPTERS readily available Pinch Rollers, manual, readily available So, how much is it worth to you? If I can't move it this way, then I will order the parts and do it myself. I'm not greedy, just don't need another project. I will make myself available to whomever purchases this unit in order to ensure that you are satisfied, and that nothing is done that would jeapordize either parties protection against a good E-Bay experience. I have worked hard to maintain a 100% customer sat rating. Please contact me with any questions/ concerns.......Thanx, Hap
