Description
This pointer is manufactured exclusively for Atlasnova according to their strict specifications. It has an all metal body (Brass) in a very attractive totally brushed silver finish. The output power and optical characteristics have been selected for superior performance when used for astronomy purposes. The visibility of the beam is greater than the normal < (less than) 5mW pointer. The typical green laser pointer can measure anything between 1 and 5mW. Most sellers do not even have the equipment to measure them. This is not a toy - not for children. All metal construction. Metal gift box. A collimating lens causes the "dot" to be sharply defined. As you may know, I have sold many thousands of high quality laser pointers here on ebay. I have finally secured the supply of what I consider to be the best Green Laser Pointers available. Here is what one customer ( Steve in Phoenix ) wrote to me: Alvine & Arnold, The mailman delivered my Uncle's high-power green laser pointer and remote switch about an hour ago. It arrived in perfect condition - thanks for the great packing job! I opened the box to test the unit (couldn't resist - had to see in myself!). I installed the two alkaline batteries included with the unit and pointed the laser at the white-painted door of my home office. One of my cats was in the room with me and the light from the pointer startled both of us! I've never seen such a brilliant light source before. In fact, part of the beam reflected off of the door (painted with gloss latex white paint) and reflected back at me. I inadvertently flashed myself - enough to startle me - with a white painted door!!! I removed the batteries immediately and put the pointer back into its box. This thing is scary bright, too bright to be a regular "pointer". I locked the box in my desk drawer so that my Nephews can't accidentally "discover" it before I have it wrapped for my Uncle. I can't wait to see how my Uncle's new pointer looks in the night sky. He'll have a ball pointing out planets, stars and constellations with it. Once I give it to him, I'll tell him about flashing myself with it off a white painted surface. There is no way that a kid, even a bright astronomy student, should ever handle a pointer like this! Once again, I appreciate your help in selecting the right laser pointer for my Uncle. It's definitely not toy and not something that I'd want to keep in my own desk drawer! :-)Take care, -- SteveAnd here is one from an uncle who bought one for himself:"Arnold, Thank you for taking time out with me over the past week on the telephone to select a decent laser with which to point out a few of the constellations I can still see to my niece and nephew. Because of an accident I suffered many years ago, I am barely able to help my 9 year old niece and 4 year old nephew find the Big Dipper in the night sky, let alone more complicated constellations without someone helping ME. We sat around the computer last night and looked through a Planetarium software program to help us figure out where the constellations were in the sky relative to our location on the planet. My nephew thought he saw the Little Dipper in every cluster of stars!Once again, I am glad I ran across your website in my research and, despite all the recent controversy surrounding the subject of lasers, I just wanted to say that there are some 35-year-old Uncles out there who still manage to impress their nieces and nephews with all their "cool" tricks!HV in TX" These Pointers have a very high quality glass lens. Many sellers are now on ebay with totally deceptive pictures of these devices in operation showing the beam itself. These pictures are typically taken with very long exposure times so that the beam will be shown. You can see the beam produced by these pointers but it depends on how dark a night it is and the relative humidity (it is the water particles scattering the laser energy that forms the beam). Indoor shots are made by adding smoke. These same sellers put some of their feedback comments on the auction page, hoping that you will not bother to see their actual feedback. Here is a question that I received recently: "Hey Arnold I was wondering about those green laser pointers...its been a long time since I looked at them! They seem great but if you look on ebay for more you can see some pictures, they are in the brightness and you can still see clearly the beam of the laser...but I dont know if its true...and I see your lasers and its just barely visible...do you have more pictures that you could send me of the laser "beam" Thanx" This was my answer: This is done by increasing the exposure time. It is not what you will see with your own eyes. I will not do this. My laser pointers are the most powerful and are of the highest quality you can buy. I probably sell more laser pointers than all of the others combined. I do it without misleading people. There will always be people being mislead (willing or not). There will always be those willing to mislead them. This is why you will not see any pictures of my astronomy grade green laser pointers in action. If you want to make sure that you receive a laser that is equal to the task you should call me so that we can discuss the particular situation at your location. The main factor for how much power is necessary to see the actual beam is the amount of humidity. The beam is formed by the scattering effect of water particles in the air. There is also the factor of ambient light level, astronomy people referred to this as "light pollution". This forms a threshold effect and must be considered. Don't worry about being subjected to some kind of sales talk. I don't even know how to take a credit card, and I have no intention of learning how. I will simply give you my best advice.I have noticed an increasing trend among ebay sellers of these devices to charge $15 for shipping and handling. I charge $8 for shipping, handling and insurance and I know that I am not losing money on this. Why are they doing this? Are they hoping that you will not notice this until it is too late? Have a good long look at my feedback. I have a lot of customers and perhaps more importantly, I have a lot of repeat customers. I believe a good part of the reason for this is that I do not insult their intelligence. This is a CW (continuous wave) pointer. I do not stock the pulsed models. This item carries a manufacturers warrantee of 90 days. As the manufacturer/importer of record, I will honor that warranty myself. I had to submit one of these to the FDA in order to bring them into the country. Please have a look at the picture of the FDA sticker attached to each pointer as it leaves the factory. Always insist on seeing this FDA sticker before purchasing any laser pointer. Item is brand new and fully checked out before shipping. Shipping and Handling $ 8.00 US. I have been answering a lot of questions brought about by the titles and descriptions contained in the ebay listings for green laser pointers. I am going to try to answer some of them here: "Is yours DPSS?" They are all DPSS - Diode Pumped Solid State - This refers to the method of generation of the laser light and is, to my knowledge, the only way to make a green laser pointer. "Does it have a range of 2 miles - 15000 feet - shine on clouds - etc. etc -???" How far the dot will be visible depends on how much ambient light is present and the quality of the lens keeping the dot size small to concentrate as much optical power as possible on the target. My pointers have a very high quality glass lens. You will find an interesting discussion on green laser pointers here:Unbiased Information. or here:Unbiased Information.
