The laser diodes are mounted in a small aluminum cube, with wires as shown.  The black plastic part on the front of the diode is easily removable.  The diode with aluminum mounting is easy to remove from the optical pickup. The laser diode is labeled "B0323" which, according to discussions on a laser group, have been safely tested up to 110 mW at 110 mA.  I have had two random samples tested.  One went up to 225mA / 194.2mW without destruction, and the other failed at 88.6mW/140mA (see the graph at the bottom).  While I can't guarantee that every diode will be the same, it appears that roughly 100mA is safe for most of these laser diodes, and more may be possible. I've removed one of the 405nm diodes from the aluminum mounting so you can see what the actual diode looks like.  It's a snug fit with some epoxy around the base, but it is removable if you're careful.  I was able to remove it by chipping away the epoxy, and carefully filing away part of the aluminum.  I'm not offering extracted diodes, but it is possible for you to remove them if you're careful.  It appears to use a standard 5.6mm metal case. The optical pickups also contains many potentially useful optics, and a combination red/IR laser diode.  They have been handled in an ESD safe manner.  Everything will ship wrapped in anti-static foam. Use care when handling the diodes to avoid damage from static, reverse voltage, or excessive current.  Appropriate laser eye protection should also be used. Condition: They are new and have never been used. In the box: You are bidding on one lot of ten optical pickups complete with 405nm laser diode, and combination red/IR laser diode.  A collimating lens will be required to make a beam.  You will also need a good constant current power supply to safely power the diodes without damage. Warranty: Due to the fragile nature of laser diodes it's guaranteed not DOA, but otherwise as-is.  For buyers outside the US I will refund the full bid price plus any packing costs, but NOT the cost of shipping.  If there's any possibility of shipping damage, contact me immediately to file an insurance claim.
